The Sudbury District Motorsports Association have entered a partnership with Dario Zulich and the True North Strong Event Centre to acquire over 100 acres of Crown land.

The land would be adjacent to the proposed event centre location on the Kingsway and would be a multi-purpose motorsport park that can be used year-round.

A site for a new arena or event centre has yet to be determined and if Zulich’s property is not picked as the location, the motorsport park may not happen.

Zulich said it would be a lot more difficult but is not saying it wouldn’t go through if the arena goes elsewhere.

City council will make a decision on where an arena will go at the end of this month.

Zulich did say this is the final piece, generating fans in the Summer time and would develop a year round complex.

President of the SDMA, Tim Laderoute says this has been something 20 years in the making and the community in general will see the benefit.

The finished product would be able to feature motocross, a mud bog, drag strip and oval track.

Laderoute says they have begun discussions with the land owners and didn’t give a timeline when the facility would be built, but said when it does it will be built sections at a time.

He also said they could potentially hold a test event at the site in a years time.

College Boreal was also part of the announcement as certain programs like the Heavy Equipment Operator, Architectural Technology, Construction Engineering, Automobile Technician and Fabrication can benefit from the design, development and operation of the proposed facilities.
