Stay off the ice….the O-P-P can’t say it any plainer than that.

The warning comes after officers from the Manitoulin detachment had to respond to two separate incidents Sunday…a truck going through the ice on Lake Wolsey followed by a similar fate for a snowmobile just off shore of McGregor Bay north of Little Current.

O-P-P constable Steve Hart says it just hasn’t been a typical winter.

He says it’s not uncommon to have three feet of ice depth on Manitoulin in the winter, but that hasn’t been the case this year, especially not this time of year.

Hart says not only are you putting yourself at risk, you are also endangering rescue crews who have to come to your aid if you go through the ice.
