The city is preparing for the ride sharing service Uber to make it’s way here and city council wants to have regulations in place for when it does.

Council voted to give staff the ability to draft up a rideshare bylaw as a middle ground for consumers, taxi companies and potential Uber drivers.

Ward 5 Councillor Robert Kirwan hopes Uber will address a major problem, citizens in the outskirts sometimes have a tough time getting a cab and there have been “nightmare stories,” about people having to resort to Facebook to get home.

Ward 3 Councillor Gerry Montpellier was not one of the councillors to lend his support, regulations or not saying it’s impossible to enforce a private vehicle.

Uber is a ride sharing program that uses an app to connect drivers and those seeking a ride in the community.
