Jail

Three new correctional officers will be added to the Sudbury Jail once their training is complete.

A total of 24 new officers are currently being trained here in Sudbury for work in institutions across Northern Ontario.

President of OPSEU Local 617 in Sudbury, Nathan Aubin believes ten times that number still wouldn’t be enough.

Aubin says three officers won’t deal with the burn out and workload issues current officers in jails face across Ontario.

In March this year, the province announced it will add two thousand correctional officers to adult facilities over the next three years.

Since 2013 Ontario has hired 710 new correctional officers.
