The province is investing in bio-technologies in the local mining sector.

Sudbury’s M-P-P Glenn Thibeault announced this morning $630,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to create a five year Industrial Research Chair  position at Laurentian University.

The Chair will lead an international research program, focusing on developing innovative bio-tech treatment technologies to dispose of or use mine waste in more efficient and environmentally sustainable ways.

This project will create employment opportunities for students as field and lab technicians, research assistants and data managers.
