Snowmobile2

By  Angela Gemmill

With the new blanket of snow, snowmobilers are itching to take their machines out, but the ice is not yet thick enough to support the weight.

One operator found that out the hard way, when his sled went through Whitewater Lake in Azilda yesterday.

Greater Sudbury Police say the man was not injured, but he was charged with Careless Driving under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act.

Police warn that ice conditions are unstable.

There needs to be at least 15-centimetres of ice to hold a person and 25-centimetres for a snowmobile.
