The late Rich Griffin has been recognized for his contributions to the Sudbury community and beyond.

The KiSS 105.3 radio personality was recently named the posthumous winner of the Rogers’ Employee of the Year CEO Award for Public Service.

KiSS Program Director Mike Allard calls it a fitting tribute and an incredible honour.

Allard says during his life Rich gave back to the community, but he has also had an impact on so many more lives following his death.

Rich passed away suddenly last May from a fatal brain aneurysm, but before he was taken off life-support he was able to donate eight of his organs through Trillium Gift of Life.

Five organ recipients received life-saving organs, including Rich’s heart, lungs and liver.

There was also an incredible response following his death to others who decided to register as organ  donors.

General Manager of Rogers Radio Sudbury, Peter McKeown says Rich did so much for the radio station, but also for the community; now he’s being recognized for his impact among all Rogers employees across the country.

Rogers represents 34,000 (full & part-time) employees in Canada.

Rich’s wife Nancy will accept the award in March at a gala in Toronto.

She says Rich being an organ donor was just a continuation of his generosity and community contributions he made during his lifetime.

She says she is humbled and very proud of her late husband for all his community work.
