Test are being taken at Kalmo Beach for a blue-green algae bloom.

Signs have been posted at the beach on Whitson lake and the Sudbury and District Health Unit are advising people to avoid swimming, drinking the water and allowing pets in the water until their investigation is complete.

Blue-green algae blooms are not anchored and can travel to other parts of the lake.

Toxins produced are usually found along the shoreline and can cause diarrhea and vomiting and can lead to liver and nervous system damage if ingested.
