Garbage and recycling collection are unaffected by this holiday. Landfills and recycling centre will be open July 1. Please make sure your garbage is at the curb by 7:00 a.m. as pick-up times may vary occasionally without notice.

LCBO and Beer stores will be closed on Wednesday, July 1.

Greater Sudbury Transit buses will operate on a Sunday service schedule.

All municipal pools and community centres will be closed. Lifeguards will be on duty at municipal beaches.

Canada Day Celebration shuttle service will be provided by Greater Sudbury Transit on Wednesday, July 1. Buses will depart the transit terminal and the former Zellers parking lot of the Southridge Mall every 30 minutes from 11:45 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. to bring passengers to Science North. Return trips begin after the fireworks at approximately 10:45 p.m. until midnight. Fare is $1.00 per person and includes the return trip. Multicultural and Folk Arts Association

• The Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association is bringing the tastes of the world to the Sudbury Arena July 1 in celebration of Canada’s 148th birthday.
• The day will kick off with a parade led by the Greater Sudbury Police Services Pipe Band from Memorial Park to the Sudbury Arena at 9:50 a.m.
• Greetings and inauguration from local dignitaries will begin at 10 a.m. on center stage of the arena.
At 11 a.m., stalls featuring food from all over the world and craft tables will open, and entertainment will continue on throughout the day.
• Admission prices are as follows: adults $2, seniors and children $1 and children under the age of 12 free.
Doors close at 5 p.m.

In Capreol, you can chug on over to the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for beer, barbecue and a live performance by Sugarboom. The 2nd Battalion Irish Regiment will also be at the museum for a military display.

Blezard Valley residents can stop by the Blezard Valley Playground from 4 to 9 p.m. for barbecue, cake, and a fireworks display at dusk hosted by the Kin Club. An unofficial ribbon cutting of the park will also take place.

For the first time since Walden was amalgamated into the City of Greater Sudbury, the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society will be holding a Canada day celebration, which also happens to be the launch of its Rock the Farm summer concert series. The event begins at 4 and ends at 8 p.m. and will feature children’s activities, cupcakes, a farmers market and musical performances by Benham, and the Bluez Brothers and the Notorious Funkmonsters Band.
