A forest fire has started in Levack this afternoon behind Coleman Mine near Seal Lake Road.

Fire crews from the Levack and Chelmsford stations were called along with the Ministry of Natural Resources around 3:45 pm.

The MNR once again had to use a water bomber.

As of 6 p.m. the fire was not under control.

As of Wednesday night there had been 17 new forest fires in the region bringing the total up to 66 fires in the Northeast.

According to the MNRF interactive fire map, Sudbury is currently the only area in the province that is under an extreme danger rating.
