When I first heard about this 3-part series by Nico Taus called “Cracks in the Road”, I was intrigued.  Why would someone spend all this time and energy on the history of skateboarding in Greater Sudbury?  After watching the first episode, I found out why.  It actually chronicles growing up in this city in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s.  Some fascinating video and pics and interviews and the struggles of boarders to be able to ride in their own neighbourhoods, because as their signs said “Skateboarding is not illegal.”  It sure was a struggle though.    I talked with series director Nico Taus about what it was like to be a skater in a small Northern Canadian town during those early years.
