Roger Waters, Pink Floyd’s frontman, used his private jet to help reunite the children of a dead Islamic State fighter stuck in Syria with their mother. Waters flew the woman from the Caribbean to the Iraqi border with Syria, where she crossed with a British human rights lawyer.

Felicia Perkins-Ferreira, from Trinidad and Tobago, had not seen sons Ayyub (7) and Mahmud (11) since they were taken by their father to Syria to live in the so-called caliphate in 2014. She has had only intermittent contact with them since. The father, Abebe Oboi Ferreira, is thought to have died fighting in Raqqa some time in 2017. They were then abandoned by his new Belgian wife on the side of the road.

Waters, 75, has been vocal on the subject of Syria, denouncing Western intervention in the war-torn country. The singer has also made unfounded claims that White Helmets civil defense rescuers, which operate in rebel-held areas, were a fake organisation that “exists only to create propaganda for the jihadists and terrorists.”
