Greater Sudbury's Winter Outlook

Record cold temperatures in early November were a weather blip, but they might have shown a preview of what is to come this Winter.

The Winter forecasts are out and Senior Climatologist with Environment Canada, David Phillips says Greater Sudbury has been hit with about 60 cm of snow so far, more than double the normal amount.

But he thinks the record cold temperatures of November might have said something about what type of Winter we might get.

He says we are in for a weather phenomenon called a Pacific Blob.

Phillips says there might be a warm patch in early to mid-December but the snow is very likely to stick around for the Holidays.

Phillips says even though it will be colder than normal, he doesn’t believe it will last as long as last year’s Winter.
