A 46-year old man who was allegedly involved in a double shooting last night in Sturgeon Falls has been found dead.

The Special Investigations Unit has been called in and say police were contacted around 8 pm last night after a woman reported gun shots on her property on Leblanc Road in Sturgeon Falls.

Police closed Highway 17 in the community and the SIU says officers and the 46-year old had an “interaction,” before the man fled into the bush.

He was found dead around 2 am in the bush with a gun shot wound, but police are not saying if it was self-inflicted.

Highway 17 West in Sturgeon Falls opened early this morning after an active shooter situation closed the roadway last night.

West Nipissing Police reported a shooting involving two people in the Leblanc Road area of Sturgeon Falls last night but there’s no word on the victim’s condition.

Police received a 9-11 call just after 8 pm, and were searching for a 46 year old man.

Residents in the Drive In Road and Leblanc Road area were advised to lock their doors and windows and remain inside.

OPP tweeted at 3 am that the highway was back open and affected residents should contact West Nipissing Police about returning to their homes.
