Due to being overcapacity for most of 2016/2017, Health Sciences North is in an operating deficit of 7 million dollars.

The information was released last night at HSN’s annual general meeting.

The Emergency Department saw 74 thousand visits, a new record, there were over 24 thousand admissions to hospital and 32,600 surgeries.

The main factor in being over budget came from a 27 per cent increase in the number of Alternate Level of Care patients in hospital beds.

The AGM also marked the final report from Dr. Denis Roy as HSN’s President and CEO is retiring at the end of the month.
