Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault has announced 23 million dollars will go to the Rainbow District School Board to build a new elementary school and renovate four others.

Although the location for the school that will hold 387 students has not been picked, Thibeault’s announcement was made at Lasalle Secondary School.

One thing is for sure, it will be in New Sudbury as the JK to Grade 6 school will take the place of Carl A. Nesbitt, Ernie Checkers and Westmount Public School which are all closing.

Confederation Secondary School, Churchill, Chelmsford Valley District Community School and Levack Public School will get funds to accommodate new students.

Cap and Trade Proceeds

The province is investing 200 million dollars through their cap and trade proceeds to help repair and enhance schools.

Northern Ontario will see their share as the Rainbow District School Board will get over 2.2 million dollars, while the local French Catholic School Board and French language school board will get 1.3 million and 824 thousand dollars respectively.

The money will be used to install energy efficient building elements like new windows, lights and furnaces.
