Being ugly may not be a bad thing, especially when it comes to a schoolyard as the Ugliest Schoolyard Contest is back.

Since 2005, 41 local schools have received funds to regreen and create a healthier environment for students.

Supervisor of the Regreening Program, Tina McCaffrey says past winners have been able to create spaces to hold outdoor classes, learn about the environment and grow their own berries.

McCaffrey says children in Sudbury are growing up with a much greener city, so it’s important to continue to educate students.

Entry forms are available on the city’s website with a $20,000 prize from Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, a Glencore Company.

The deadline to enter is May 11th.

Last year St. Charles Catholic Elementary School in Chelmsford took the top prize with Macdonald Cartier getting a runner up prize.
