Vesa Lehtonen made his first trip to Sudbury as the new Ambassador of Finland to Canada.

Lehtonen was honoured with an induction into Huntington University’s Canadian Finnish Institute Fellowship Program.

He spoke about Canada’s 150th birthday and Finland’s 100th year of Independence.

Lehtonen says Canada and Finland have a long standing relationship but it may be more important now than ever.

Lehtonen says it felt almost like coming home as he was able to meet with people of the Finnish community in Sudbury and had a chance to speak Finnish which he says was refreshing.
