Two new Registered Midwives will be hired in six first nation areas across the province including here in Sudbury.

The investment comes from a two million dollar fund provided by the province and will help child and maternity care for up to 40 Indigenous women in our community.

Naomi Wolfe is one of the two Aboriginal midwives hired and says it’s important to provide care while respecting cultures.

Executive Director of Shkagamik-Kwa Health Centre, Angela Recollet says having two Aboriginal Midwives makes a huge difference in their health care delivery.

The investment is put in place for three years.
