Feds Provide Second Round Of Transit Funding

An investment of 5.3 million dollars will boost the city’s transit services as seven new projects got the green light.

It’s the second round of funding from the Federal Government through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund as in August 7.6 million was announced for Sudbury.

The Feds and the city will provide 2.6 million each.

Projects include an accelerated bus fleet rebuild, transit access improvements on the Kingsway, improved connectivity on Westmount, cycling improvements on Paris and Notre Dame, a travel demand management study and intelligent transportation system strategic plan.

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serre says Sudbury’s a large city and effective transit is a very important piece of it.

Director of Transit, Michelle Ferrigan says the funds are essential to improve the city’s services.

Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre says efficient and sustainable transit plays an important role in our community.

Here is how the investment was broken down(money is from federal government not including city’s half).

Paris/Notre Dame active transportation improvements – $367,500 November 15, 2016

Intelligent transportation system study – $27,500 November 15, 2016
