Ontario Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault says he didn’t ask for anything that would be seen as a bribe in exchange for running in a provincial by-election for the Liberals.

Thibeault is responding to statements made outside court yesterday by the Crown lawyer prosecuting two Ontario Liberals on Election Act bribery charges.

It’s alleged they offered a would-be candidate a job or appointment to get him to step aside in a 2015 by-election for Thibeault, who was the Ontario premier’s preferred candidate.

Thibeault says he never asked to be in cabinet or for a job and is considering legal action against the lawyer.

He also says he will not step down from his cabinet position, despite a call from a number of opposition members at Queen’s Park today.
