Police Partner With Alzheimer's Society For Training Exercise

It was a training session for Greater Sudbury Police but also a chance to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Sudbury Police partnered with the Alzheimer Society Sudbury, Manitoulin and North Bay Districts during their annual missing person training scenario.

Public Relations Director with Alzheimer Society, Jessica Bertuzzi says it’s important to find that missing person early, because they are often just out for a walk and get confused.

Burtuzzi says it often happens to someone with early signs of dementia in their 40’s or 50’s living at home, not just those in long term care

Detective Sergeant, Barry Ornella says the first thing they will do is contact a family member or individual who saw the missing person last.

Burtuzzi says a good resource to use is the vulnerable person registry with the Sudbury Police.
