Two local grocery stores are among the 67 in Ontario that can start selling alcoholic beverages today.

The Lasalle Food Basics and Chartrands Independent Grocer in Chelmsford will be able to offer their customers wine, beer and cider as part of the Liberal’s plan to offer consumers more choice and convenience.

Owner, Michel Chartrand says it’s an exciting time for employees and customers.

He says the comments he has heard today is their store can now be a one-stop-shop.

Chartrand says it’s been a long time coming having lived in Quebec before.

Eventually the province hopes to have 450 grocery stores selling beer and cider with 300 that also sell wine.
