It was an emotional day for Sudbury Hospital Services laundry workers as they held a rally after being issued layoff notices.

36 workers were informed their jobs will be cut as laundry for HSN will now be done out of Hamilton.

The laundry will be trucked back and forth.

President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions, Michael Hurley says there are many questions left unanswered, like where are workers going to find jobs and is it really a cost saving measure.

The government says the move will save $500,000.

Hurley says this could be the beginning as the company who now holds the contract also provides more services and have been to Health Sciences North.

President of CUPE local 2841 Gisele Dawson says they are taking a stand and are confident it will work.

She had some strong words for Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault calling on him to fight for their jobs.

A rally will be held outside of Thibeault’s office on November 2nd
