A researcher in Sudbury has received funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research for his tobacco smoking vaccine.

Dr. Hoang-Thanh Le at Health Sciences North Research Institute has been working on a vaccine that targets the lungs and can sequester nicotine in the airways and limit its entry into the brain.

The vaccine won’t require any needles making it more cost effective.

Sudbury has higher rates of smoking than the provincial average and over 45 thousand Canadians die from smoking related diseases each year.
