Sudbury and District Health Unit

A new survey done by the Sudbury and District Health Unit and Laurentian University shows texting and driving continues to be a problem with local youth.

Over 250 people aged 16-24 were surveyed and 48 per cent admitted to texting and driving even after saying they know it’s wrong.

While it is a problem, the study also helped identify solutions which Manager of Research Evaluation at SDHU, Suzanne Lemieux says could not have been done without the eight students and two faculty at LU.

Lemieux says they used one method called eye tracking which will help to know where the eye looks on a texting and driving advertisement.

Lemieux says they will also work with driving schools and the Ministry of Transportation to possibly get something included in the licensing process.
