Buzzfeed asked its readers to reveal the movie moments that terrified them as children. Here are 10 highlights (for the full list, check out this link):

1) The Goonies (1985). “When I was 8 years old I watched The Goonies and was really feeling the movie until the scene that they showed Sloth. I was scared S**TLESS and I refuse to watch that movie to this day.”

2) The Neverending Story (1984). “I refuse to watch the scene in The NeverEnding Story where Artax, the horse, dies in the Swamp of Sadness. When I saw the scene for the while first time watching the movie as a child, I bawled like a baby.”

3) E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). “When E.T. is hiding amongst the toys. Terrifying. In fact, E.T. in general. The screaming, the long neck, when he goes all white and chalky and sick. But there was something about the camera panning over those toys and just seeing him there that made my blood run cold.”

4) Bambi (1942). “Bambi’s mother. I had to be carried out of the theater when I was 5 for that one.”

5) Matilda (1996). “In Matilda when Honey and Matilda are trapped in Trunchbull’s house and they’re trying to escape without Trunchbull finding them. To this very day that scene causes me so much anxiety and I have to cover my eyes.”

6) The Wizard of Oz (1939). “In The Wizard of Oz, when the witch starts burning to death and screams ‘I’M MELTING!’ I couldn’t finish the movie as a child, and I still won’t watch it. The entire movie gives me the heebie-jeebies.”

7) Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971). “Oompa Loompas. They come and take away children who are bad. My parents used to tell me they were gonna come and get me.”

8) Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). “The scene in Who Framed Roger Rabbit where the guy gets flattened by a steamroller made me cry every time when I was a kid, and even now when I rewatch it I have to look away.”

9) Coraline (2009). “In the f**ked-up movie Coraline, the Other Mother asks Coraline to stay with her forever–which is creepy on a whole other level. To do so, however, Coraline must let the Other Mother sew buttons over her eyes. When Coraline refuses the button deal, the Other Mother gets angry and we see her true form, which is a skeletal spider-like monstrosity.

10) Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985). “When I was little, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, when the thunder claps and Large Marge’s head shrinks, her eyes bug out and she’s suddenly claymation. Scariest thing in my entire childhood.”
