The Sudbury and District Health Unit has posted a local beach as unsafe for swimming.

Signs went up today on Whitewater Lake Park Beach after water samples exceeded the acceptable water quality standards for beaches because of high bacteria levels.

Going into the water with high bacteria concentration puts the swimmer at risk for infections.

Illness can also occur if swimmers swallow beach water…if water gets into their ears, eyes, or nose, or if it comes in contact with open wounds.

The signs will come down when test determine bacterial levels have returned to normal.
