A new report states that health care is Sudbury is facing a funding gap of $56-million a year.

The report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information was released here in the city this morning.

The president of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions, Michael Hurley says cuts and under funding are leading to a lot of hardships locally for staff and patients.

Hurley says Ontario’s level of funding results in 178 fewer nurses and 529 fewer people providing care at Health Sciences North.

When compared to the rest of the country, the report shows that the Ontario government is under funding hospital by almost $5-billion.
