Rob And Cheryl McEwen Give 10 Million Dollars To School Of Architecture

The Laurentian School of Architecture will now be known as the McEwen School of Architecture after Rob and Cheryl McEwen gave 10 million dollars to the downtown school.

Rob McEwen is one of the leading mining executives in the country, is the founder of Goldcorp Inc., and is currently the chairman and chief owner of McEwen Mining Inc, while Cheryl McEwen is the Vice Chair of the UHN Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation.

Rob McEwen grew Goldcorp Inc., from a 50 million dollar company to one worth over 10 billion dollars

Rob says for them this was a chance to invest in the North and their country.

He says this donation comes from a passion of architecture he had when he was young.

Cheryl McEwen says this is a new thriving centre for downtown Sudbury and will create a domino effect for revitalization.

Rob McEwen’s connections to the North stem from mining exploration but he says he has a deeper connection to Sudbury having spent a summer working for INCO(now Vale) while going to school.

The McEwen School of Architecture will officially open in full in the Fall and four million dollars will go towards the completion, while six million will go to enhancing the student experience.
