On June 18, 2016, at approximately 12:01 a.m., members from the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated a traffic stop on Highway 17, in the township of Baldwin, east of Espanola.

As a result of the investigation, it was found that the male driver was disqualified from driving and under suspension.

Thomas Pine, 36 years of age, from Sault-Ste-Marie, was arrested and charged with the following:

  1. Driving while disqualified – court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code
  2. Driving while under suspension, contrary to 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act – four counts
  3. Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act

The vehicle the accused was operating was impounded for 45 days under the Vehicle Impoundment Program (VIP).

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on August 2, 2016.
