Crime is down in Sudbury according to stats provided by the Greater Sudbury Police.

The service released their 2015 year end crime profile which showed a 5.3 per cent decrease in criminal offences.

Police Chief Paul Pedersen says there are many factors that play into the decrease like better locks on cars and homes as well as better community involvement.

Impaired driving offences down almost 10 per cent, thefts down 22 percent and arson is down over 40 per cent.

Pedersen says they can’t be satisfied even though Sudbury is on the lower end of crime in Northern Ontario.

Pedersen says one of the more impressive stats was that calls for service continue to drop, down almost 2 per cent from 2014 and down 8.2 per cent in the last five years.

One of the only categories to see a rise was car thefts, which was up 10.4 per cent in 2015.
