CUPE 4705

By Stew Kernan

An overwhelming strike mandate by city workers.

The inside and outside workers gathered for meetings yesterday and voted last night with 94% of the more than 700 workers who cast ballots, voting in favour of a strike mandate.

The 1500 members of CUPE Local 4705 have been working without a contract since the end of March.

Union President Darryl Taylor says the vote doesn’t necessarily mean a strike is imminent, but it gives the union negotiators some leverage as talks with the city continue.
