Sudbury is looking to become the first Northern Ontario city to host the Canada Summer Games since Thunder Bay in 1981.

City council approved a letter of intent to bid for the games 2021 games and will now play the waiting game until the short list of Ontario cities is released in January 2017.

Tourism Manager Meredith Armstrong says the 2013 games in Sherbrooke, Quebec had a huge economic impact on that city.

The bid will cost Greater Sudbury $ 20,000 and it’s estimated Sudbury would need about 3 million dollars to upgrade facilities if successful, which would be matched by the provincial and federal government.
