There’s a non-profit group, called Break Bread Sudbury, which is collecting funds for care packages for new refugee families, to give them a little taste of home.

According to Organizer Joseph Mansourian, the boxes have pantry items the Syrians would be familiar with like spices, rice, couscous and olives.

Break Bread Sudbury has already provided food packages to the two new refugee families in Sudbury, with the hopes of giving boxes to other newcomers set to arrive in the city.

Mansourian says when his mother arrived in Sudbury from Syria in the 70’s there wasn’t a whole lot of international grocers so she wasn’t able to purchase food that helped her feel at home.

He says his mother his biggest information source on what pantry items should go in the care packs.

Break Bread Sudbury hopes to provide boxes to more newcomers set to arrive in the future.

Donations can be made online at breakbreadsudbury.ca.
