Homeowners across Greater Sudbury will have a bigger water-wastewater bill this year.

The city’s Finance and Administration Committee set the 2016 rates last night with a 7.4% overall increase.

That works out to an extra $71 on an average household using 200 cubic metres of water.

This increase is meant to help pay for maintenance of water-wastewater services, capital investments, consumption and the Biosolids Management Facility.

The capitol budget for water/wastewater was approved at $37.5-million.

Greater Sudbury has 69 lift stations, nine wastewater treatment plants, six well systems, four wastewater lagoons and two water treatment plants.
