Bear

By Angela Gemmill

When bears are injured or even when they’re hungry they can get aggressive and persistent.

Staff Scientist at Science North, Amy Henson, who is also a Biologist, says the two most recent news stories show residents what bears will do to find food.

She says without natural food sources in the bush, bears will do anything to find their next meal, especially if they have cubs to feed.

Henson says normally bears are fearful of humans but when they’re hungry that all changes.

She says the recent case involving an injured bear on Woodbine Avenue is proof their behaviour can change quickly.

Henson reminds us to give wild animals space and respect, but if public safety is threatened to call police and/or the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry.

She says there are even several bears that roam the outer grounds around Science North.
