A well-known mining executive, philanthropist and health care advocate originally from Sudbury, has passed away.

Peter Crossgrove was the Director of Excellon Resources and sat on many business and mining boards.

He was also a humanitarian and philanthropist, who had helped raised millions for charity, as well has health care and cancer care organizations.

He had been given both the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario, along with a number of other accolades.

Crossgrove was to be given an honourary doctorate of letters from Laurentian University during convocation ceremonies June 5th.

He died Tuesday at the age of 78.

Crossgrove was born in Sudbury but grew up in Copper Cliff before moving on in his mining career.
